WordPress 2.0 users, tell me your stories

THIS POST HAS BEEN MOVED TO:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Consider this an official request -- I want to hear from WordPress 2.0 users about what your experiences have been (positive and/or negative), whether you're glad you made the switch from 1.5 (or another blogging platform), if you are having problems then what kind, etc

BTW - I've heard reports of people having problems with permalinks and trackbacks, but haven't experienced them myself on a new (i.e., not upgraded) install of WordPress 2.0 (and I'm using custom permalinks w/o problems).  Could someone who IS having problems with these areas please clarify what the issue is?

Either email me at howtoblog (at) gmail.com or, preferedly, comment on this post. Thanks in advance, faithful readers.  I appreciate your input!

Hi. I don't think it's an issue that the 2.0 version's permalinks don't work .. I suspect it's when people change it - that's the problem. At least, that's the issue with me .. I just did that on http://The-Singers.com trying to eliminate the dates from the URL to just categories, when I received the error. It could have been after activating the Evermore plugin too .. I thought it was working before, but I could have overlooked it.. (i didn't think there was a need to take notes).

Take care! Hope that helps. I'm also in the support forums too about this.

@HART: Thanks for responding. That's an interesting speculation -- that the permalinks only break if you go to change from one setup to another. Has anyone confirmed this? So does that mean if you set up the permalinks the way you want to begin with then you won't have problems with the current 2.0 codebase?

Although I think I have seen issues in the support forums about permalinks flat out not working for some people. As mentioned in my post, so far I haven't had a problem (although I haven't tried to change the permalinks after setting them up, either - might be an interesting experiment).

No problems during update process, Just a bit of panic at the end of "entire" process because I deleted the index.php :P

I Love the new administrative panel :)

Oops! I just commented on another story. I have three WP 2.0 installations running with no problems.

I installed my blog on the "blog" subdomain.
Was previously using 1.5.2, just upgraded to 2.0

After using it for a few days, suddenly I could not access the MySQL tables that are being used by WP. They seemed to be locked by some unknown thing. I cannot unlock the tables. Worse, I cannot drop them!

I am not sure if this problem was due to 2.0 or was it just some MySQL specific problem.

I've used WP before (although not currently) and installed it to a new site I'm working on. I didn't like v2.0 at all. Seemed much harder to work with posts and pages when one wants to code them rather than use editing tools.

I finally gave up and will work with Serendipity. I think.

I have had all sorts of weird problems moving from 1.5 to 2.x on three of my websites, including permanlinks on subdomains going screwy.

In all instances, the problem was resolved by wiping wp-admin, wp-includes, index.php and all the root wp-x.php files and re-uploading. But not with Dreamweaver!

Uploading a new site to an empty host, I noticed that good old Dreamweaver 8 occasionally skips files. I'm not quite sure why this is, but I guess I could be doing something stoopid ;-) Anyway, if you have trouble, try deleting the remote files and re uploading with an FTP client
